5 X 5 writing guidelines:
- Each set of questions should cover a wide variety of topics. PLEASE CITE SOURCES WHEN AVAILABLE. Wikipedia is NOT considered a source, and while it can be useful for ideas, you may find links within Wikipedia for original sources - cite these after checking, not the wikipedia page.
- For the main game, the difficulty should increase as you go down the category in the template [note that this legacy template lists the information top to bottom, but the newest edition of the game will adjust to display questions from left to right.) The difficulty of the categories should be about the level of Jeopardy Tournament of Champions. Remember that the 5th question in each category is the Double Up clue and could double the score of the player who selects it, so it should be difficult, but not impossible.
- The final question has *at least* five correct answers, best is 5, or if there are 6, or a rank with a 6th instance that can be used in the question as part of the prompt, or beyond the first rank the next 5, etc. The full set of answers needs to be known.
- Write the clues as questions (not an answers, as Jeopardy! does)
- Write the QUESTIONS IN ALL CAPS, using lower case letters where appropriate.
- Each question can be a maximum of 255 characters, but try to keep the clues succinct.
In each game, please limit yourself to the following maximums:
- Only one category per game devoted entirely to events within this decade. You may include individual clues about recent events here and there, but only one entire category devoted to recent things (e.g., CURRENT WORLD LEADERS, 2020s TELEVISION)
- Only 1 "Given This, Name That"-type category per game (e.g., STATES BY CAPITAL, WHAT MOVIE WAS THE DIRECTORIAL DEBUT OF...)
- Only one Something In Quotes category per game (e.g., "ROCK" SONGS, INITIALS "J.J.")
Instructions for filling out the FiveByFiveTemplate:
- Only make changes on the "Fill Out This Grid" tab of the Excel worksheet.
- All of the red text fields are required.
- If you are using a media file as part of the question, replace "MEDIA FILE (IF APPLICABLE)" with the name of the media file, including extension, in the box immediately below the answer of that question.
- The "SOURCE" cells fields are where you can cite sources used.
- Please enter the clues in ALL CAPS with lower case letters entered where appropriate (1980s vs. 1980S, McMAHON vs. MCMAHON, etc.)
When completed, rename the excel template in the following format: Your Name + "5x5Set" + the set number your wrote (for me, it would be "BillSchantz5x5Set1.xls") and send the file to the above email.
Thanks for your participation!
